Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is trying (again), as are Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee and Minnesota Vikings kicker Ryan Longwell. Former San Diego Chargers quarterback, the great Billy Joe Tolliver will also give it a go.
Jerry Rice is going to sit this one out, it appears. His appearance on the Nationwide Tour didn't go so well.
Whether or not any of them have a legitimate chance of making the field, I couldn't tell you. Romo's tried three times in the past, and he keeps coming up short (insert your own "Romo is a choker" joke here). Longwell sounds pretty confident, and he says his buddies on the PGA Tour say he has the game to make it happen.
Should any of them win in local qualifying, then they'd move on to sectional qualifying, and if they'd happen to win there, they're in the U.S. Open. And if they'd go on to win in the U.S. Open, then clearly, they are in the wrong sport.
